Peter Beens - Beens Consulting

Education and small business support, grounded in practical experience

I help educators and organizations create useful resources, workshops, and classroom AI tools. I also offer small business consulting and project support, with an initial focus in Niagara and remote work available more broadly.

A practical career across technology and education

My career began in experimental flight test instrumentation, first in the Air Force (including F-18 work), then in the helicopter industry. I worked with onboard instrumentation and real-time telemetry for experimental flight testing.

I later taught computer science and computer technology, using purposeful, project-first teaching to build students' practical computing skills. I adopted online tools when they offered a clear benefit, not simply because they were new. As an Education Officer at the Ontario Ministry of Education, I was responsible for the Technological Education and Computer Studies curricula.

Today I develop Data Dunkers resources and workshops, advise on ICT and AI in education, and create custom GPTs and Gemini Gems for curriculum planning, assessment, special education, computer studies, and classroom work. I also take on subject-association writing, project management for writing projects and webinars, and small business consulting. Education work is often online; small business work starts in Niagara, with remote support available.

How I can help

Education support and small business/project support, shaped around the work you need to do.

Data analysis resources

I develop teaching and learning resources related to data analysis as part of the Data Dunkers team, a partnership between Dell and PS43. The focus is building student and teacher capacity, not analyzing board or system data for organizations.

  • Curriculum-ready data analysis resources
  • Workshops for teachers
  • Workshops for students

ICT in education

Guidance on information and communications technology that supports teaching and learning, rather than technology for its own sake.

  • Classroom and program support
  • Curriculum and practice alignment
  • Professional learning design

AI in education

I help organizations use AI in the classroom and build tools that fit real teaching work. This includes custom GPTs and Gemini Gems for Ontario curriculum subjects, instructional planning, assessment, computer studies, and adapting assignments for an AI-aware classroom. I have also been consulted to write a chapter for a subject association on the use of AI in the classroom.

  • Ontario curriculum specialists (e.g. math, science, computer studies, tech ed)
  • Assignment strengthening and redesign for the reality of AI
  • Math MPT (Math Proficiency Test) support for new teachers
  • Special education, lesson planning, and critical-thinking tools
  • Subject-association writing and professional resources

Small business & project support

I have started offering small business consulting, initially with a focus in the Niagara region and with remote support available as well. I provide practical, plain-language support for entrepreneurs and organizations. I also provide project management for writing projects and webinars.

  • Advisory conversations tailored to your situation
  • Niagara-focused start, with remote support available
  • Project management for writing projects and webinars

Clear, practical, and people-centred

Good consulting starts with listening and ends with something you can actually use, whether you teach, lead a program, or run a small business.

I am a teacher first. My goal is to give people the understanding and confidence to continue on their own. If I have taught you enough that you no longer need to rely on me, then I will have done my job well.

  1. Understand the context

Every classroom, school, and organization has different constraints. Work begins with your goals, learners, and realities, not a generic template.

  2. Build usable resources

Whether it is a Data Dunkers workshop, a curriculum resource, or a custom GPT, the aim is something people can pick up and use with confidence.

  3. Ground work in experience

Resources and advice draw on classroom teaching, curriculum development, and provincial-level work, so they stay practical and credible.

  4. Keep language plain

Whether the topic is data, ICT, or AI, materials should be clear to educators and students without unnecessary jargon.
